Open Channel Flow Meters

Open channel flow meters are instruments designed to measure the flow of liquids running with a free surface, as occurs in open-air channels, watercourses and partially filled pipes. In these applications, the cross-section through which the fluid passes can change together with the level, making it necessary to use a measuring system capable of interpreting the hydraulic conditions at the installation point.

Our range meets this need with different measuring principles. The
RIF970 uses non-contact radar technology to detect surface velocity and level; RIF940 and AVFM6.1 work on the relationship between velocity and the area of the wetted section using ultrasonic sensors. The Palmer-Bowlus and Venturi systems, on the other hand, derive the flow rate from the change in level generated by a known hydraulic geometry.

The Riels range includes
configurable open channel flow meters for various measuring conditions, with solutions suited to open-air channels, watercourses, partially filled pipes and applications where solids or sediment are present. The available configurations make it possible to adapt the measurement to the geometry of the section, the characteristics of the liquid and the plant's monitoring and integration requirements.
