High pressures and temperatures are not a problem for level meters with communicating vessels

The principle of communicating vessels is the principle according to which a liquid contained in two or more containers communicating with each other, in the presence of gravity, reaches the same level giving rise to a single equipotential surface.

These level meters with communicating vessels (magnetic) are level indicators composed of a column of liquid external to the container made up of magnetic material, with a transparent front face and containing a series of small external permanent magnets enclosed in small colored cylinders ( bicoloured), which are made to rotate on their horizontal axis from the position assumed by the internal magnet of the float according to the level to be detected. The measurement is directly presented to the observer by the magnetic measuring device.

The external visible scale will appear of a color (for example white) due to the fact that the interior of the column is occupied by the liquid phase, and of another color (for example red) due to the fact that the interior of the column is occupied by the gas phase.

The external visible scale will appear of a color (for example white) due to the fact that the interior of the column is occupied by the liquid phase, and of another color (for example red) due to the fact that the interior of the column is occupied by the gas phase.
Given the detection and unequivocal presentation of the interface between the liquid and the gaseous phase (with two different colors), this measurement system can be suitable for the remote transmission of the level indication by means of a reed relay or potentiometric device, which does not "see "but" feels "the position of the colored cylinders and therefore the height of the level to be detected.

These visual level meters have many advantages, which make them usable in the following fluid applications:

- at high pressure
- at high temperature
- flammable or explosive
- chemically aggressive
- environmental pollutants
- harmful or poisonous to humans
